Day 10... after 8 days of Scotch in a row - time to bring out an Irish Whiskey ... Connemara Peated Single Malt, Cask Strength coming in at a hearty 57.9% ABV. I've had this one before, and I've been working on this bottle for most of the year, but have not reviewed before.
You do get the alcohol in the aroma as expected, but earth and smoke are present as well along with some sweetness. You get the peat and some malt and fruit in the flavor, but the combination along with the cask strength makes my lips and tongue vibrate. Small sips are in order for this one. A dash of water doesn't change the taste much. While not usually recommended for single malts - this might be best over an ice cube as it lets things mellow out. I have had the Connemara 12 Year before, and recall enjoying it more - in the future I'll stick to that one. Rated 2.5/5.0
