2023 24 Days of Whisk(e)y - Day 17

Sunday ... moving into the final week of the 24 Days of Whisk(e)y ... looking forward to several things coming up, and was really looking forward to trying this one. While I moved around a bit as a kid, most of my growing up was in Cedar Rapids, Iowa - about 20 miles away from Swisher, Iowa, where Cedar Ridge distillery is located, and tonight we're having The QuintEssential from Cedar Ridge. The owner and master distiller is Jeff Quint - hence the name (: This is an American Single Malt, 46% ABV, batch 10.

On the nose I get the malt, along with orange juice, ripe apple, a background sweetness and a touch of peat if I go looking for it. The taste reminds me of peach cobbler, fruity - along with a touch of spice and peat. The finish is malty, fruit juice and some spice.

With water, the nose is more malty. The taste seems oddly briny - the finish as well. A nice spice in the finish now too. Overall, this is pretty good - not great, but it can certainly present as a single malt from Scotland, which is clearly what they were trying to do. Rated 3.75/5.0, will likely buy another bottle at some time, especially if I can find a cask strength one.
