Whisk(e)y Wednesday - 2020-10-21

Tonight I'm finishing off my bottle of Compass Box Artist's Blend - Great King Street, blended Scotch Whisky, coming in at 43% ABV.

For the longest time I was a bit of a Scotch snob when it came to blends, figuring Single Malts were always better - not realizing that a Single Malt is most often a blend as well - but a blend from one distillery. In the past, I've had a few lower end blends, mostly various Johnnie Walker offerings, but I figured I could see if I could find a reasonably priced blend I liked. This one was well reviewed so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Vanilla on the nose with some citrus as well, a touch of spice seems to come in as well. Lemon on the taste, along with creamy vanilla and a hit of barrel as well, which I seem to get more of in the finish. Water doesn't change things very much - smooths out some of the spice for me.

I purchased this for under $40 from Flaviar, and it is certainly a nice Scotch at that price. I love how open and transparent Compass Box is - you can go to their website and see what they used in the blend. I'll be buying a replacement bottle of this at some point - Rated 3.5 / 5.0
